DISNEYIZATION OF SOCIETY

DISNEYIZATION

Disneyization as a complementary notion to McDonaldization. Disneyization is depicted as a process by which the principles of the Disney theme parks dominate more and more sectors of society. It is presented as comprising four aspects: theming, dedifferentiation of consumption, merchandising, and emotional labour. The empirical manifestations of these attributes are outlined. The roots of Disneyization in theories of consumerism and consumer culture are examined and are contrasted with the grounding of McDonaldization in the idea of rationalization.

Due to the current trend, many countries have their own theme park such as Universal Studios, Disneyland and other theme parks. From this we can see that the world is becoming much centralised as countries are following the similar concept and there is a loss of culture as well. The uniqueness of countries is relatively fading off due to the western culture. Countries like Japan, US, Hong Kong, Singapore and other countries are the examples of the Disney culture. Nowadays, the Disney culture is spreading around the world,  example a new theme park related to Disney is in the process of building at Dubai and tourists is looking forward for it.

Eventhough the Disney theme park is built all around the world, tourist are still visiting the various countries. Macdonald was a mini fast food restaurant but now it is a multibillion dollar business around the world. Every country we go, Macdonald is always there because it is globalised. Countries like India and China prefer their own cultural cuisines but Macdonald is available at India and China. Based on the research India and China Macdonald is also doing very well. From this we can see that people taste and preference is becoming centralised as well.

DISNEYLAND AT MECCA

Disneyland may be considered the Mecca of the westernized world, a must-see attraction for tourists and locals alike.  The Disneyland experience is a total emancipation from reality although its dimensions are what characterize the real capitalist world we live in.  Disneyization is “the process by which the principles of the Disney theme parks are coming to dominate more and more sectors of the American society and the rest of the world”.  It is a large-scale social process that is made up of a number of analytically separate components   A more specific definition is problematic to come up with but nonetheless, like McDonaldization, its different dimensions serve to explain how its processes permeate in many of the modern world’s cultural sectors.
